A Night to remember...
So last night saw a new opportunity and experience within photography for me, I was invited by my father in-law to come to a meeting of the Mid Cheshire Astrological Society, a group of night photographers in the local area for where I am currently staying after getting back from Jamaica. It was an interesting meeting with a presentation of work and technique from the wonderful Nigel Ball, an award wining night photographer, whose work and methods I found.... irritating.
Now let me explain, Nigel is a wonderful person, we met before the meeting and had a great chat sharing many experiences and opinions on a range of topics. Indeed, Nigel's presentation was succinct, detailed and brilliantly delivered... the irritation, such as it is, comes more from my own stupid mistakes than anything else.
Night photography and all it's variations remains something I haven't ever really experimented with in the past, largely due to a belief that I lacked some specialist equipment to produce the right work.... I was sorely mistaken at this point and could have easily been producing a series of work out in the Caribbean for a while now should I have bothered to do my research.
Either way, I got my opportunity to experiment yesterday out in Delamere Forest and here is the first result. What you are seeing is the Milky Way (the bit in the middle), shot in panoramic, in the middle of a car park. This is far from the most ideal conditions for the shoot with a large full moon and some outside light pollution causing some of the glare you can see... But not a bad first try I reckon.
