Digital Double-Exposure Test
I've been working recently with some double exposure tests in Photoshop, these are not an easy process to get right and each test has taken a fair amount of time in editing to get them looking half way decent. The images themselves come from a shoot with Atasha Brown who came in recently for another shoot, these are fairly simple and can be done either as a full silhouette or as normal head-shots.
After that comes the editing, now the images I chose to mix in this time come from various past shoots since this is only a test series for now. Firstly, I add the second exposure as a new layer in Photoshop then change that layers blending mode to 'Screen' to produce the rough effect of a double exposure. Now that's the simple version, afterwards comes a long series of exposure tweaks making use of a fair few different adjustment layers. Additionally, the second exposure might require some kind of manipulation as well to ensure the shapes within the two compositions work well together.
There's still more work to be done though before the final series can start in full, I need to fix up the backdrop or commit to some kind of shading/lens flaw. I will also shoot some more dedicated second exposures for the final edits as well, allowing me some more planning for the editing phase. In the meantime, I fully recommend experimenting with the process as it allows for some interesting experiments that won't cost too much of the model's time/your money.
